How to Find a Gluten-Free Restaurant for New Year's Eve (or any other time you're looking for a safe, gluten-free restaurant)

PictureGluten-Free restaurant on the road in Oregon during my Pacific Coast Highway Trip!
Confused about how to find great gluten-free restaurants around you or when you travel? Find out tools you can use to find amazing gluten-free friendly and dedicated gluten-free restaurants to eat at on New Year’s Eve. If you're new to the gluten-free scene or you've been gluten-free for a while, you can still have a hard time finding a great restaurant. Whether you are a foodie or not, looking for a restaurant at home or on vacation, getting a good gluten-free meal at a nice restaurant can be daunting.

There are several tools you can use when you want to find a great restaurant for you and your family and friends! Filter for price, type of food and ambience. Learn how to cross-check your choice of restaurant, find out the difference between a gluten-free friendly restaurant and a dedicated gluten-free restaurant. Additionally, listen in to find out which three questions to ask when calling a restaurant to find out if they are safe for celiacs.

Opentable
One of the resources I love to use is OpenTable. OpenTable is a reservation site and I use this resource because it’s easy to filter and find restaurants and reserve online instantly. You can use opentable’s online website or their mobile app to book a table. Your account setup is free. Find restaurants and make reservations through OpenTable and receive points when you dine at that restaurant using a reservation from OpenTable. When you reach a certain level of points you will receive rewards through OpenTable.

Find Me Gluten Free App
Find Me Gluten Free is available online and as a mobile app. Look for gluten-free friendly, dedicated gluten-free restaurants, places to eat with dedicated fryers. Find different gluten-free features

PictureWheat bread? NOPE! This is a GF loaf of bread using Grandpas Kitchen bread mix http://grandpas-kitchen.com/our-products/
Gluten is the protein found in many varieties of grain. Gluten can be found in  wheat, rye, barley and triticale. Just in the category of wheat alone, there are several sub-categories of grains: wheatberries, durum, emmer, semolina, spelt, farina, farro, graham, KAMUT® khorasan wheat and einkorn. Gluten is the glue that helps maintain the shape of your dough when baking. Gluten is sticky and keeps moisture locked into that yummy loaf of bread that you're making. This is the reason why gluten-free baked goods are more dry and fall apart easier than their gluten counterparts.

Yes, there are foods you can commonly find wheat (and other gluten containing grains). Here is a list of common gluten-containing foods:

Is Gluten-Free for you?
There are many benefits for leading a gluten-free lifestyle BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE AN INTOLERANCE OR ARE POSITIVE FOR CELIACS DISEASE. Many people will tout the benefits of a gluten-free lifestyle such as more energy, a feeling of well-being and weightloss. Weightloss is an easy take because as you become gluten-free you aren't able to access that lovely refillable container of fluffy white bread at restaurants, the boxes of aromatic wheat-based pastries and buying and eating those box of very yummy oreos every week.
A new year starts with a New Year's Resolution to create a better space in your life. Many people choose a healthy lifestyle goal for their new year and this year is no exception. According to statisticbrain.com, three of the top 10 New Year's resolutions are health related. Not surprisingly, a larger number of people each year are trying a gluten-free lifestyle. Should you try gluten-free? Is it really worth the hassle?
Try "RENTING" the gluten-free lifestyle for one month
Once I heard a speaker talk about "renting" an idea. What a great in between for those who don't want to neccessarily commit, but are interested in trying it out. "Renting" an idea is the process of setting up for success for a short period of time, a trial period so to speak, to find out if what you are trying out is something you want to pursue further. Think of renting an idea like going on a first date: if it doesn't work out, then you can always try another one!
You are a good candidate for being gluten-free if:
